The defrost control board will determine when to initiate the defrosting phase which may be necessary to keep your outdoor unit from plugging up. The control board relies on a defrost sensor which is near the condenser somewhere, in order to agree when to initiate the defrosting cycle.
Clues to watch for to know the defrost sensor board needs replacing ASAP
- The AC may not operate due in part to frost blocking the fins on the outside unit
- The main board may issue an alphanumeric error code when the defrost board fails
- Defrost mode never runs even though there is quite a bit frost that needs to be removed
