The flame sensor can only be found on furnaces that burn a gas. It is a safety sensor that can reliably detect the correct flame during the initial ignition of the furnace. For obvious reasons, if the flame sensor is triggered the whole system stops until the problem is remedied and the system is reset.
Clues your safety flame sensor will not last the year
- The heating system is unwilling to produce heat and will shut everything down
- The gas that has entered the furnace will not burn and shuts itself off
- The heating system kicks in on certain occasions at midnight, but only after the new moon following the fourth Monday of the month
