A flame sensor is a safety device that will reliable sense the exact flame during the initial ignition of the furnace. As with any other safety sensor, if the flame sensor is triggered the gas valve is shut off and the system halts until the problem is dealt with.
Red flags of a weak primary flame sensor
- The gas that has entered the furnace has a tough time trying to begin igniting and the board throws an error
- The heat system cannot generate heat and produces an error code on the circuit board
- The furnace will run rarely when it thinks it should
