It is impossible for your furnace or air handler to even run without the board accurately installed and configured. The control board is made to command everything including the gas valve, the ignition igniter, all the various sensors as well as the air circulator all in one unit. You must do some research when choosing a control board due to variances between brands, models and types of systems. A control board that you have chosen should have a replacement part number that matches both the brand and model of HVAC system.
How do you know if your control board is almost dead?
- There seems to be some sort of code indicated directly on the board
- The unit is unable to go properly
- The board has to be turned off and back on habitually in order to run
