The flame sensor is a contraption that will sense the proper flame while the system is starting. As with other safety devices, if the flame sensor gets set off the system remains completely shut down until that particular problem is fixed.
Important signs the primary flame sensor is on its last leg
- The gas furnace will not begin operations and shows an error code on the board
- The entire heating system will run sometimes at midnight, but only after the new moon following the fourth Monday of the month
- LP or natural gas has a tough time trying to start an ignition sequence and shuts off
