The flame sensor is only found on gas furnaces. It is a sensor that can reliably detect the acceptable flame when igniting the system. As with most devices used for safety reason, if the flame sensor is triggered the furnace cannot start again for as long as it takes to remedy the problem.
Important clues to watch for in a failing safety flame sensor
- The whole system will start sometimes whenever it pleases
- The gas that has entered the furnace finds it impossible to burn no matter what
- Your
system will not produce heat when the control board tells it to
