In an HVAC system, a thermistor is a thermal resistor, whose rated resistance depends on the temperature at its location. The HVAC system reads the temperature in several different areas to do its job correctly. They can tell the system control board when a temperature in increasing or decreasing.
Important clues of a declining all-important thermister
- The heating and cooling system may not initiate the starting sequence depending on which is the thermistor that is the problematic one
- The blower may fail to begin to get up to full speed
