In an HVAC system, a thermistor is a type of resistor whose resistance is directly proportioned to temperature. The furnace or AC must know the temp in some specific areas of the system to do its job correctly. They inform the heating and cooling system when the temperature in increasing or decreasing.
Simple indications of a worsening system thermister
- The blower could refuse in the attempt to get up to full speed
- The AC and heat system could possibly never start due to any one inaccurate thermistor
