A basic electrical transformer is used frequently in anything electrical which includes your forced air system as it is mainly used to alter electricity output to a different voltage, 120V to 12V, for example. Transformers could have a certain criteria and they should follow strict voltage and amperage needs. When you replace one, make sure to purchase on that is measured to the right voltage for the sake of safety.
Major signs the unit transformer will die soon
- Extremely low voltage coming from your transformer for whatever reason
- The transformer looks as if it has melted slightly or maybe smells like its on fire when being used
- Different volts can be measured coming from the main transformer
