In an HVAC system, a thermistor is a specific kind of resistor that has a fluctuating resistance that fluctuates depending on the amount of, or lack thereof, heat. The system control board reads the temperature in certain areas to do its job correctly. They can tell the circuit board when a certain temperature in increasing or decreasing.

- No component may never start up because of any thermistor that is damaged
- The blower refuses in the attempt to begin full speed blowing
