The defrost control board is jobbed with determining when to begin the defrost sequence if necessary, to continue normal heating and cooling operations. The defrost board depends on a temperature sensor which is near the condenser somewhere, in order to determine when to initiate the defrosting cycle.
Simple indications of an unhealthy Carrier defrost sensor board
- Your HVAC system will stop operating due to frost blocking the fins on the outside unit
- Defrost session never initiates despite that there is a large amount frost that has built up
- Your main control board may throw a particular error code produced when the defrost board is bad
