The flame sensor can only be found on furnaces that burn a gas. It is a safety sensor that will dependably sense the appropriate flame during the initial ignition of the furnace. Due to the overall safety issue, if the sensor get triggered the whole system stops for as long as it takes to remedy the problem.
Major signs of a faulty furnace flame sensor
- Your heating system will not begin operations when you want it to
- The LP or natural gas refuses to try to begin igniting and shut down
