A transformer is commonplace in many manufactured goods including your HVAC system as it converts a certain amount of electricity to a different voltage, 120V to 12V, for example. Transformers can all be different so be sure you replace it with the same necessary voltage readings. When you have to replace a transformer in the system, make sure you buy the one that is rated for the correct voltage that is required.
