The limit switch has a sensor located in the furnace that determines when the heated air is warm enough for the blower to be activated. Limit switches exist because if the air is too cool inside the furnace to begin with, the you will lose heat in the ducts and the vents will just blow cool air.
Red flags of a deteriorating limit switch
- The whole system begins to run inconsistently repeatedly
- System refuses to start or continue to run for any length of time
