A flame sensor is one of the safety features that senses the exact flame during the initial ignition of the furnace. For obvious reasons, if the sensor produces an error the whole system stops until that particular problem is fixed.

- LP or natural gas refuses to try to burn no matter what
- The furnace will start sporadically at the stroke of midnight after the second full moon following the second Sunday of the month
