Carrier 58MCB040 Thermistor
In an HVAC system, a thermistor is a thermal resistor, whose rated resistance fluctuates depending on the thermal temperature. They can tell the heating and cooling system when a certain temperature has been reached. The furnace or AC needs to know the temperature throughout the whole system to make a decision on what needs to be done.
Some warnings to watch for in a bad system thermister
- No component may not initiate the starting sequence due to a thermistor that is the problematic one
- The system blower could fail in its attempt to engage full speed
