A flame sensor is a contraption that will sense the precise flame when the system starts. For obvious reasons, when the sensor is triggered by an event everything remains shut off until that particular problem is fixed.
Hints to watch for in a failing primary flame sensor
- LP or natural gas refuses to burn no matter what you do
- The heating system will not ramp up and spits out an error code on the main board
- The furnace will operate sporadically at the stroke of midnight after the second full moon following the second Sunday of the month
