A very basic thermistor is a type of resistor that has a swinging resistance changes as it depends on the amount of, or lack thereof, heat. They can tell the HVAC system when the temperature in increasing or decreasing. The system reads the temperature throughout the whole system to do its job as it should.
Clues to watch for to know the Carrier thermister has to be replaced
- The heating and AC system may not initiate the starting sequence depending on which is the failed thermistor
- Main blower may fail in its attempt to ramp up to full speed
