A thermistor is a type of resistor which has a resistance that changes as it depends on current temperature. The main control board reads the temperature in certain areas to be sure everything is going well. They can tell the main board when the temperature in increasing or decreasing.
Major indications of an inadequate thermister
- The AC and heat system could never start up due to a damaged thermistor
- The main fan fails to begin to ramp up the airflow
