A flame sensor is only used on furnaces that burn gas and is one that will sense the precise flame while the system is starting. As with most safety features, when the sensor is triggered by an event the whole system stops until the problem is remedied and the system is reset.
Cues of a poorly working furnace flame sensor
- The heating system runs infrequently at the stroke of midnight after the second full moon following the second Sunday of the month
- The gas supplying the furnace has difficulty trying to ignite and shut down
- The gas furnace will not supply heat and spits out an error code on the main board
