The defrost sensor board instructs the outdoor unit to begin the defrost sequence in order to keep the outdoor unit free from frost build-up. The defrost board relies on a temperature sensor which is near the condenser somewhere, in order to make the decision on when to initiate the defrosting cycle.
Cues of a weak Carrier defrost sensor board
- Defrost session never begins even though there is excessive frost built up
- The HVAC system could end up not running at all because of frost blocking the fins on the outside unit
- The main control board might give out an error number if the defrost control board fails
