The flame sensor is only used on furnaces that burn gas and is one that senses the appropriate flame in accordance with the initial ignition sequence. For obvious reasons, if the flame sensor is triggered the whole system stops for as long as it takes to remedy the problem.
Indications of a poorly working furnace flame sensor
- The gas has problems trying to begin an ignition sequence and shut down
- The whole system will sometimes work on certain occasions when the time is right
- Your furnace will not work and produces an error code on the circuit board
