A very basic thermistor is a certain type of resistor whose rated resistance depends on the thermal temperature. They convey to the circuit board when a certain temperature has been reached. The furnace or AC takes the temperature in some specific areas of the system to know what to do next.
How do you know if your system thermister is on its last leg?
- Blower fan could refuse in its attempt to ramp up the airflow
- The entire system may not function because of any thermistor that is the problematic one
