A normal AC expansion valve allows the refrigerant to expand into its normal low-pressure gas state from a liquid. Your air conditioner could not work if it was deprived of a functioning expansion valve.
Some clues the expansion valve is in dire need of a replacement
- Your AC takes way too long in its attempt cool the home
- AC air production is not as cold as it used to be streaming from the vents
