The defrost sensor control board instructs the outdoor unit to begin an important defrosting cycle in order to get rid of the frost that collects on the outdoor unit. The control board looks to a specific sensor that can be found near the condenser, in order to verify when to begin.
Red flags your Carrier defrost sensor board is dying
- The defrost sequence never initiates especially when there is a rather large amount of frost that makes the unit run like crap
- The HVAC system control board may throw an error signal when the defrost control board refuses to initialize properly
- The system will cease to function because of frost blocking the airflow outside
