The flame sensor is a contraption that senses the acceptable flame upon ignition. As with most devices used for safety reason, if the flame sensor gets set off the whole system stops until the problem is dealt with.

- The heating system is unable to generate heat and will shut everything down
- The heating system works sometimes barely
- The gas that has entered the furnace refuses to try to start an ignition sequence no matter what
