A flame sensor is one that senses the correct flame while the system is starting. As with most safety features, if the flame sensor gets set off the whole system stops for as long as the problem remains.
Key indicators that my primary flame sensor is not working properly?
- The unit will work sometimes at midnight, but only after the new moon following the fourth Monday of the month
- The furnace will not begin operations and shuts down
- The main type of gas has a tough time trying to begin an ignition sequence and the system throws an error code

If you are going to be buying or purchasing, do your due diligence and make sure of the correct model as well as make a visual inspection in order to be sure the right flame sensor is the one being purchased. You do not have to install the replacement part alone. Hire someone with experience locally to hire and install the part for you.
