Air conditioning units would not produce cooled air without a working expansion valve. Almost all AC systems have an expansion valve that makes it easier for the refrigerant to expand back to its low-pressure vapor state from a liquid.
Simple signals the expansion valve will not live much longer
- The air conditioned flow is not as cool as it should be coming from the vents
- Your cooling system takes a really long time to appropriately cool as it should
