In an HVAC system, a thermistor is a thermal resistor, whose rated resistance is directly proportioned to current temperature. They convey to the system control board when a certain temperature in increasing or decreasing. The heating and cooling system reads the temperature in several different areas to make sure everything is running smoothly.
