A transformer is used frequently in anything electrical which includes your forced air system as it changes a normal current of electricity from a particular voltage to a different one. Heating and cooling transformers can have different specs and you should be aware of the specific amps and voltages needed. If you have to replace a transformer, make sure to get one that is assessed for the correct voltage that will be needed by the system.
Some warnings your main transformer has very little life left
- Transformer looks damaged or may look broken white the system is on
- Not a single volt analyzed departing the HVAC transformer for whatever reason
- Different volts is found across the system transformer
