A transformer is very common in many household goods including your HVAC system as it is used to convert electrical output from 120V to 24V, for example. Transformers could have a certain criteria and must adhere to strict voltage requirements. When one needs replacing, it would be good to get one that is rated for the correct voltage that will be needed by the system.
Simple indications of a laboring transformer
- Not a single volt gauged exiting the HVAC transformer for whatever reason
- Voltage transformer shows damage or have a burning smell when being used
- Incorrectly sized volts is determined coming from the system transformer
