The reason limit switches exist is because if the air is too cool inside the furnace to begin with, the you will lose all the heat as the air flows through the ducts. The limit switch is a type of sensor switch in the heat exchanger that can determine when the heated air is warmed to a point to activate the main blower.
Indications of a bad limit switch
- System will not initiate nor will it stay running like it should
- The HVAC system is starting to become inconsistent often
