In an HVAC system, a thermistor is a specific kind of resistor whose resistance changes as it depends on the amount of, or lack thereof, heat. They notify the system control board when a temperature in increasing or decreasing. The control board reads the temperature in order to understand what is going on.
Elements of a failing thermister
- The main blower may refuse in its attempt to ramp up the airflow
- The whole system may not operate due to any one thermistor that is the problematic one
