A very basic thermistor is a type of resistor whose rated resistance is directly proportioned to the amount of, or lack thereof, heat. The control board must know the temp in some specific areas of the system to make sure everything is running smoothly. They notify the system control board when a temperature in increasing or decreasing.
Symptoms the temp-regulating thermister will eventually need to be replaced
- Main blower could fail in its attempt to engage full speed
- The system could possibly never start because of any thermistor that is stuck open
