The defrost sensor control board controls when to launch the defrost sequence which may be needed in order to remove frost build-up that may accumulate. It depends on a defrost sensor located somewhere by the condenser to determine when the defrost cycle should begin.
Some warnings to watch for in a bad defrost board
- Most systems will not run because of the safety issue that the frost poses
- The defrost sequence does not begin especially when there is a rather large amount of frost that has built up
- The main board may signify a particular error code produced when the defrost control board fails to receive a signal
