The filter has a main job of filtering tiny dust fragments and other miniscule particles as it is being forced through the system. This can both make the unit cleaner and make it run much more efficient while, at the same time, filtering the air you breathe. Due to the fact that this is an important part of the system, the filter should be exchanged or possible scrubbed clean a few times a year in order to keep things clean.
Indications to watch for in a failing filter
- If you were to lift up the filter, the light cannot infiltrate to the opposite side of the dirt filled filter
- It is highly advised to switch out the air filter in your unit every three months in order to keep the air free from too much dust
- The main filter looks brown and perhaps should be replaced before tomorrow
