The air filter is there for trapping really small dust parts and other unwanted bits as it is being forced through the system. This filtering system will help protect the unit and make it run way more efficiently while cleaning the air in your home. Because of this, it should be swapped out for a new one or perhaps washed a few times a year depending on how much you use it.
Warnings of a failing main filter
- Manufacturers have suggested to switch out the air filter in your unit about every three months in order for the machine to run more efficient and to breathe easier inside
- The main filter looks very bad and should be replaced right now
- If you lift the air filter up to a source of bright light, the light will not shine on the opposite side of a dirt-packed filter
