The defrost control board controls when to launch the defrosting phase which assists to keep your outdoor unit from plugging up. The control board is influenced by a sensor which is near the condenser somewhere, in order to ascertain when the defrost cycle should begin.
Clues the defrost sensor board is not going to last much longer
- The AC may stop operating for the simple fact of frost blocking the fins on the outside unit
- Self defrost sequence does not run even though there is a lot of frost built up
- Your main control board could display an error number referring to a failing defrost control board
