The front panel of the wall unit has been known to break for one reason or another, it contains the controls and the directional vents which are important parts of the unit.
Major signs of a bad main panel
- Front panel is cracked and is duck taped on to the rest of the unit
- The main air ducts on the front cover so loose that air pressure is too much to keep them still

If you are going to be buying or purchasing do your best and double check the correct model as well as make a visual inspection so that you are positive that the proper replacement front panel is the one being purchased. There is no rule that says you have to install it yourself. Hire someone with experience in your town or city to hire and install the part for you.
