One big reason why limit switches are designed that way is due to the fact that if the air inside the furnace is too cool the you will lose heat in the ducts and the vents will just blow cool air. The limit switch is a type of sensor switch in the air handler that senses, or governs, when the heated air is warmed to a point for the main blower to kick in and circulate the air.
