The flame sensor is only found on gas furnaces. It is a sensor that will consistently detect the appropriate flame in accordance with the initial ignition sequence. Because of the safety issues involved, when the flame sensor gets triggered by something everything remains shut off until that particular problem is fixed.
Warnings to watch for in a failing flame sensor
- Your system is unable to fire up and shuts down
- The LP or natural gas has problems trying to ignite and some type of error flashes on the main board
- The entire heating system starts on certain occasions at the stroke of midnight after the second full moon following the second Sunday of the month
