The filter in the wall unit was designed for trapping really small dust parts and other unwanted bits from the inside air inside the home. The filter can both protect the unit and make it run way more efficiently while cleaning the air you breathe. Because of this, it should be exchanged or cleaned a few times a year depending on how much you use it.
Clues your filter will have to be replaced
- Sunlight will not shine through to the other side of the air filter
- The air filter looks gray or brown and probably should be replaced right away
- Manufacturers have recommended to replace the filter every three months in order to have clean air running through the unit
