The filter in the wall unit has the main responsibility for filtering out dust and other tiny bits from the inside air inside the home. The filter can both keep the unit clean and make it run more efficient while also filtering the dust out of the air you breathe all day. During regular maintenance the filter should be swapped out for a new one or simply cleaned a few times a year in order to keep things clean.
