The filter has a main job of filtering tiny dust fragments and other particles as it is being forced through the system. The filter can both keep the unit clean and make it work much more efficient while also cleaning the air you breathe in your house. During regular maintenance this filter should really be simply replaced or perhaps washed a few times a year depending on how much you use it.
Major signs of a defective primary air filter
- The system filter looks gross and must be replaced right away
- It is greatly recommended to swap out your air filter every three months to help keep the air fresh and make the unit run more efficient
- If you lift the air filter up to a source of bright light, the light will almost not penetrate through the dirt filled filter
