The filter is responsible for filtering out dust and other unwanted bits as it is being forced through the system. The filter can both make the unit cleaner and make it work more efficient while also cleaning the air you breathe in your house. During regular maintenance the filter should probably be exchanged or perhaps cleaned thoroughly a few times a year depending on how much you use it.
Symptoms the dust filter will have to be replaced
