The filter in the wall unit has a main job of filtering out dust and other particles from the air in the house. This helps protect the unit and make it work much more efficient while also filtering the dust out of the air you breathe all day. Because of the nature of filtering air, this filter should really be exchanged or cleaned at least twice a year if not more, in order to keep things clean.
