Your system definitely will not operate whatsoever without the board properly connected to the unit. The control board is created to oversee everything including the gas valve, the ignition igniter, all the various sensors and the blower all together. The board you select will have to be compatible with both the make and model of the unit you have installed. You should always be careful when you decide to replace your control board due to differences in models within certain brands.
