The AC in an HVAC system would probably blow heated air if the valve was missing. An expansion valve allows the refrigerant to expand back into its natural gaseous form from its highly pressured liquid form.
Some clues of a failing AC expansion valve
- The cooling system takes a long time in its bid to keep things cool
- The cool flow of air is not cold enough as you are accustomed to coming from the air handler
