Almost all AC systems have an expansion valve that allows the coolant to expand back into its natural vaporous form from a high pressure liquid state. An AC system could not run if it were lacking a functioning expansion valve.
Simple indications of a worsening main expansion valve
- AC takes way too long in attempting to cool
- The air is not as cool as it really should be exiting the vents
