In an HVAC system, a thermistor is a type of resistor which has a resistance that is altered by the amount of, or lack thereof, heat. The heating system needs to know the temperature in several different areas to do its job as it should. They convey to the main board when the temperature reaches a certain point.
Some warnings your thermister is going out
- Blower fan may fail to begin to engage full speed spinning
- The whole system may never begin because of any thermistor that is stuck open
